Once a unit has been meticulously configured by our high definition cutting system the parts are cleaned, powder coated, painted, and cured at 400 degrees Fahrenheit to a hard enamel finish. One often overlooked advantage of evaporative cooling is that it consumes less water than air conditioning. This is because utility companies consume a substantial amount of water generating the electricity required by air conditioning.

United Metal Products offers their clients another major innovation. The central pumping system cuts at least 80% of the maintenance and fifty percent of the water normally wasted in standard evaporative coolers. The central pump works by having a single pump distribute the water to multiple units on the roof. Gravity then drains the water back to the single reservoir where it is easily maintained, controlled, and monitored. The central pump also keeps the individual units free from the corrosive effect of standing water.

If water usage is the building owners number one concern with evaporative cooling, maintenance is second. A unique cooling medium manufactured by Munters® allows us to compress 123 sq ft. of suface area into one cubic foot. This leads to optimal operating efficiency. The natural elegance of evaporative cooling has given the air conditioning industry its foundation. While working with air washing and humidity control in a textile mill in 1906, Dr. Carrier developed what many believed to be his greatest accomplishment: the psychometric chart. His later experiments in substituting the natural water vapors of evaporative cooing with ammonia led to his development of the refrigeration process and to CFC gases. Since the beginning of time our planet’s survival has depended upon a natural process, a process that drives our weather system. The process begins with the sun warming the oceans, then the heated water vaporizes and rises before condensing into clouds. The clouds then release the cooled cargo in the form of rain. This process is known as evaporative cooling. This natural and powerful system has been the inspiration and model for cooling technologies throughout the ages.

The history of today’s modern evaporative cooling parallels the history of one family. In 1912 an inventive German family migrated to the U.S.   In the early 1920’s their oldest son, Jon Goettl, moved to Arizona and soon began mass producing evaporative cooling units. International Metal Products was born and over forty years later grandson Steve Kinkel founded United Metal Products.
